Event Questions

Q. What are the dates for the San Francisco Mid-Singles Conference?
A. Friday to Sunday, September 12 to 14, 2008.

Q. Where is the San Francisco Mid-Singles Conference going to be held?
A. Three main locations: downtown San Francisco on Friday night, the Presidio and Fisherman's Wharf area on Saturday, and across the bay at Oakland's Temple Hill for all events on Sunday.

Q. How flexible are the event times?
A. You need to be on time — or you'll be left behind or left out — for the night tour of San Francisco (11 pm departure on Friday), bay cruise and dance (7:30 pm boarding time), and optional shuttle buses on Sunday (fixed schedules).

Q. Can I register when I arrive?
A. No, pre-registration via the Internet is required. No walk-ins are accepted.

Q. Is there an advantage to registering early?
A. Yes, first-come, first-served. Due to capacity constraints of several of our activities, we anticipate the possibility of a waiting list. So register now!

Q. What should I wear?
A. Dressy-casual clothes are suitable on Friday and Saturday evenings. Casual clothes are suitable on Saturday morning and afternoon. Church attire is requested on Sunday. Dress in layers! Weather changes frequently during the day in San Francisco (average temperature is 68* days and cooler at night), so bring a sweater, sweatshirt or wind-breaker for both daytime and night activities. September is the best time of the year to visit San Francisco, but don't let proximity to the beach fool you; breezy & humid (it's called Fog City for good reason) conditions off the ocean are frequent. Modest clothing is required at all times. LDS Standards of modesty and conduct are required for all attendees (see For the Strength of Youth pamphlet).

Q. Will it be easy for me to meet new people?
A. Yes, please plan to meet lots of people. We'll have mixer games throughout the weekend, starting at the opening night party including Speed Dating, and other get-to-know you moments throughout the weekend.

Q. Why is this a Mid-Singles event for ages 27-45?
A. To address the unique needs of this age group, which tends to be under-represented at traditional singles conferences. This event emphasizes a high degree of mingling and interactivity throughout its three days. We hope you'll meet LOTS of new people and continue your friendships with them afterward.

Q. Why can't I come if I'm 46 or 26 years old?
A. This is a Mid-Singles event and we needed to draw a line somewhere. We realize that every time there's a line drawn there will be people just on the other side of that line that are unhappy about it. There are plenty of other LDS Single Adult and Young Single Adult activities that will welcome you and we would be happy to recommend those events!

Q. Can I attend if my divorce is not yet final?
A. No, your divorce must be final before 9/12/08.

Q. Can I bring my kids?
A. No, babysitting is not provided. This event is specifically for LDS single adults between the ages of 27-45. The activities and venues are not child-appropriate.

Q. Can I help in any way?
A. Yes! We welcome committee members and volunteers. Please send an email indicating your contact information and area of interest/expertise to SFmidsingles@gmail.com.

Q. How can I join a group for dinner on Saturday at a restaurant?
A. We'll provide a list of suggested venues and encourage you to make arrangements with other attendees on Friday or Saturday to meet up at one of these venues. You'll want to eat near Pier 39 or Fisherman's Wharf so you'll be on time for the bay cruise and dance.

Financial Questions

Q. What does the base-level registration fee cover?
A. Entrance to a great evening at the Metreon’s City View venue including spacious private deck, fun games and a catered lunch at Crissy Field, ice cream sundaes at Ghirardelli Square, bay cruise with DJ'd dancing and a non-alcoholic bar, and a dessert party at Temple Hill.

Q. What other events or service are available?
A. UPDATE (7/4): For additional fees: a late night Friday city tour (+$20), shuttle buses from SF to Temple Hill (+$13), catered lunch at Temple Hill (+$10), and a shuttle bus from Temple Hill back to SF (+$13). See detailed schedule for exact times and details.

Q. Should I bring cash or a debit/credit card?
A. We recommend that you carry some cash with you at all times for souvenirs, public transportation including buses and cabs, after-party entrance fees, incidentals and especially for breakfasts and Saturday dinner at the restaurant of your choice. Beyond that, most places in San Francisco accept major credit cards and debit cards.

Q. Can I register for one day or one event of the San Francisco Mid-Singles Conference only?
A. No, registration is for the entire conference only.

Q. Can I get a discount to the San Francisco Mid-Singles Conference by offering to help out or not partaking of refreshments?
A. No, there are many people who have donated countless hours to the events, and fixed costs for the events are prepaid.

Q. Can I cancel my registration?
A. Refunds are available if requested in writing by August 20, 2008. Otherwise, you’re welcome to sell your registration to another qualified guest. You must send a message to registration@sfmidsingles.com from the email address that you registered with to let us know of the change, otherwise that person may be denied entrance to the event.

Logistics Questions

Q. Where do I go to get my San Francisco Mid-Singles Conference entrance bracelet?
A. If you arrive on Friday, go to the top floor of the Metreon Center located on 4th Street at Mission alongside Yerba Buena Gardens between 7-11 pm. If you arrive on Saturday, go to Crissy Field (just east of the Golden Gate Bridge) and look for the banners that mark the registration table.

Q. Are room accommodations included in the San Francisco Mid-Singles Conference registration fee?
A. No, you must arrange and pay for hotel room accommodations and transportation separately.

Q. Can I share accommodation and transportation costs with others?
A. Yes, we will be adding a way to help you find others with similar needs through this website later this summer, but we will not be coordinating such services.

Q. Can I use public transportation rather than rent a car?
A. Yes, though you'll need to also use/pay for the private shuttle service to and from Oakland's Temple Hill on Sunday. On Friday and Saturday while in San Francisco, public transportation will be easier and cheaper than renting a car, especially considering parking fees and many streets in San Francisco that do not allow left turns.

Q. How do I get from Event A to Event B?
A. Keep an eye on the website. As the Conference gets closer we will be posting directions and links to Mapquest.

Q. Can I have a copy of the attendee list?
A. No, but we hope you'll make many, many friends at the San Francisco Mid-Singles Conference.

Q. Who is organizing the conference and providing Priesthood Leadership?
A. The Single Adult Committee of the San Jose Mission Coordinating Council has formed a Mid-Single Adult Subcommittee with representation from each of the 8 stakes in the Council. This conference is being organized the Mid-Single Adult Subcommittee. The Los Altos Stake is providing priesthood leadership.

Q. How do I contact the organizers?
A. Send an email to SFmidsingles@gmail.com.
